World Autism Awareness Day - Dress Blue Day 2017 2017-04-02

Dress Blue Day 2017

Autism Partnership Foundation (APF) organised “Dress Blue Day” on 2 April, calling on everyone to dress in blue which symbolised showing support to individuals with Autism, in respond to “World Autism Awareness Day” (designated by United Nations General Assembly). APF held “Dress Blue Day” event at apm (Kwun Tong), inviting the public to dress blue on 2 April to generate public awareness about Autism and raise funds to provide support and assistance to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their families.

Hoping the community be more understanding of Autism

Ms. Quincy Lau, Behavioural Analyst Supervisor (Applied Behaviour Analysis) of APF, thanked all the guests attending “Dress Blue Day 2017” and said, “APF was established to bring a better life for people with Autism by providing comprehensive and effective services. We provide Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) treatments, parent trainings, marriage and family therapies to underprivileged children with Autism and their families.”

A beneficiary, Yu's mother shared her difficulties of taking care of her daughter. She stated, “I was very worry about Yu as she didn't speak before” While another beneficiary parent, Ranon's mother, also expressed her concern for the growth of her son. When she had noticed APF providing 1 to 1 intensive ABA treatment, she applied immediately. After 1-month treatment, her son has made significant progress. She said, “I have spent a lot of time teaching Ranon different vocabularies, but he still can't understand; but after having a treatment at APF, he has learnt many new vocabularies. He can also take the initiative to use different words to express his needs. This may be insignificant in the eyes of others, but it's enough to keep me excited for a long time!”

Officiating guests attending the event to show support

Ms. Stephy Tang (renowned celebrity) and Mr. Mic-Go Ngan (renowned photographer) dressed in blue attending “Dress Blue Day 2017”, showing support to children with Autism and their families, and also generating public awareness of Autism. During the event, they made use of the theme of “Dress Blue Day” this year – Increase Public Awareness on Autism Spark the Power of Blue, to design T-shirts. Using graphics instead of words to express the message of understanding and acceptance of Autism.

In addition, Mic-Go gave APF one of his photos which implying the future is full of love and hope. This photo will be used for charity auction in APF's gala dinner in June, raising funds for providing services to children with Autism from low-income families.
