Regional Autism Conference 2017-11-13

Therapists and parents from APF were invited to join the 2-Day Regional Autism Conference. It was held by Autism Partnership Ltd. on 4th and 5th November. Six speakers from the US, including a university professor, researchers and a mother of a child with ASD, shared their views on current and past Autism treatments in different perspectives. On the first day of the conference, speakers discussed on different topics, including the effectiveness of ABA in treating children with ASD, the myths on ASD and the changes on ABA therapy over time. On the second day, Dr. Ronald Leaf, the Honourary Advisor of APF, conducted a live demonstration with Senior Behavioural Therapists on ABA intervention for two brand new children who are diagnosed with ASD and have not received any ABA therapy before. Meanwhile, Dr. Leaf answered questions that were raised out by the audiences with regards to the challenges in parenting and teaching children with ASD. For example, the ways to deal with children's certain disruptive behaviours and the methodology to apply ABA therapy into different settings. Everyone put themselves out and it was a fruitful weekend.
